Ginger Ibex

gingeribex.jpg

Ginger Ibex makes use of strings, piano, and percussion along with a wealth of ethnic influences and selected classical chops to create a sound that is as hard to classify as it is beguiling.Pianist Sharon Crumrine's earliest influences was Beethoven, and also the Romantic & Impressionistic composers, Middle Eastern modes, Tango and contemporary Rock. Mezzo-violist Betty Widerski's radically eclectic background and endless creative & technical ability on a wild variety of stringed instruments, plus some percussion added to the mix, give Ginger Ibex a powerful yet lyrical sound. Melika Fitzhugh's wide range of instrumental skills (including violin, guitar, percussion & bass) plus her love of Balkan music in odd meters make her ready for any musical style Ginger Ibex explores. Natalie Shelton-May's classical percussion skills informs her kit skills to provide the dynamic percussive range for GI's pieces.

Sophie Crafts is a Massachusetts-based accordionist, known for performing on the streets along with a foot-activated, look-alike, tap-dancing marionette. Originally from small-town Western Massachusetts, Sophie began piano lessons at age five. She has continued to be an active musician in various capacities since then, culminating in the beginning of her accordion career after graduating college in 2010. Under the moniker “Sophie’s Smokin’ Squeezebox,” Sophie keeps busy “playing back student loans” in a homemade piano-patterned dress on her favorite street corners in the US, Canada, and Europe. An avid traveler, she enjoys using her craft as means to explore new corners of the globe and seek inspiration. Her eclectic repertoire includes everything from Italian arias to The Rolling Stones to TV theme songs to Miley Cyrus.
