“Ephemera”, sound-visual performance
Katya Popova & Gary Fieldman
Sound and shadow—transitory beings, entering each other's universes to play and morph, transforming into one poetic whole for one moment in time.
Katya Popova is multidisciplinary artist, working at the intersection of physical texture, shadow, and sound. Her works explore what could have been by tracing the physical gestures and material qualities of everyday things. She often works in collaboration with sound artists.
Her installations have been exhibited locally and internationally. Katya is a graduate from Rhode Island School of Design with BFA and received MA at Boston University. Presently she teaches courses on Visual Art at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Composer and percussionist, Gary Fieldman, defined his sensibility early on from eclectic interests, which include the Jazz and the European classical music traditions. Movement has also been important in his musical conception. He draws from many years of Tai Chi study, and this is expressed in rhythmic studies macrorhythome.com. Gary also utilizes his synesthetic sense as inspiration in the drawing of analogies between light and timbre.
