Outer Core makes its Boston debut with special guest Max Ridley on Bass. Outer Core is a modern jazz quartet that melds elements of free jazz and chamber music to create a sonic palette that expresses the full range of human experience. The group's debut album on Breakfast 4 Dinner records, Losing Focus, showcases the playing and songwriting chops of saxophonist David Bode, trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor, bassist Amina Scott, and drummer Joey Van Leeuwen.
Outer Core was founded in 2015 by trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor and saxophonist David Bode who recruited bassist Amina Scott and drummer Joey Van Leeuwen to explore a fusion of spontaneous improvisation and chamber music. The lack of a chordal instrument such as piano or guitar lets the band stretch out in different ways during solos, and the three melodic instruments are given equal weight in carrying the harmonies of the compositions. All the members of the group are incredible composers and have created new compositions for Outer Core that reflect both the personalities of the composer and unique possibilities of the band's instrumentation. The members studied at prestigious music schools including Loyola University New Orleans, University of New Orleans, Florida State University, and New England Conservatory. Outer Core has performed at multiple venues New Orleans, and had recent dates in Jackson, MS and Tallahasse, FL. In 2016, Outer Core was signed to Breakfast 4 Dinner records and released their debut album, Losing Focus, in 2017. The album features compositions by Bode, Nabipoor, and Van Leeuwen, was recorded by Paul Schoen, and was produced by Jeff Albert. Outer Core will be releasing an follow up EP in January 2020.
