Marcelo Maccagnan delivers a truly unique take on electric jazz with a more progressive and experimental approach, while also highlighting rhythms from his native country, Brazil. A bassist of unique style, Marcelo can play harmonies and melodies on his instrument, creating exquisite colors of sound with a rich chordal and soloistic vocabulary. The band focuses on lots of interplay, which feels quite spirited for they truly listen to each other. Psychedelic on their approach and free on their performance, the group is able to maintain the classical "Jazz Trio" layout while exploring new frontiers with the electric bass as the spotlight.
Marcelo is an electric and upright bass player originally from Brazil. He has been an active member of the New York music scene, having the chance to perform and record with high-level musicians as a sideman but also a leader.
His playing and compositions are heavily influenced by styles he grew up with such as rock, brazilian music, electronic music and also Jazz. This fusion of sounds is how the artist likes to define himself.
The result is a truly authentic fusion of sounds which, whilst modern and electric, never loses sight of the improvisation and communication central to jazz.
With his latest album “Night Tales”, Marcelo places himself as a prolific bandleader and composer, with music in the genre he calls “Progressive Jazz”.
