Night Hawk and Chrysalis

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 (map)

Chrysalis (solo)

Indigo Ansin, known professionally as "chrysalis," is a Boston-based songwriter, singer, and guitarist currently attending Berklee College of Music.

Heavily influenced by artists they grew up listening to such as Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morissette as well as contemporaries like Field Medic and Indigo de Souza, chrysalis fuses together a unique blend of traditional American folk and grunge indie rock. They actively work to integrate their love for music with their passion for the liberation of oppressed peoples by radically taking up space in the folk genre, which has been one predominantly fronted by white male artists. They also take from their indie rock roots of femme-fronted bands that do not shy away from difficult topics in their lyricism.

Despite only recently starting to release their music, chrysalis has had major successes in their career so far. Whether it be organizing mutual aid benefit shows in the Boston DIY music scene, working with other young indie folk musicians working to diversify a genre that has not previously made space for marginalized artists, or having played Boston Calling after getting scouted while busking in the streets of Boston, they hold their love for community at the forefront of everything they do.

Aside from music, chrysalis is a loud, extroverted Sagittarius who spends most of their time with their friends, doing arts and crafts, and raising an aspiring insta-famous cat named Joni Michelle. Follow her Instagram to help her live out her dreams: @j0ni111 (account run by dad)

Night Hawk

Night Hawk is a Maine-based outfit led by Colter Adams and Peyton Semjen, whose music often blurs the line between indie rock and performance art. Featuring a rotating cast of intrepid players from the New England underground, the project revolves around the question: what do Edward Hopper's paintings sound like?

Night Hawk's music is defined by stark geometry and bold imagery, underpinned by a deep sense of melancholia and repose. Drawing on Soir Bleu (1914), Automat (1927), Nighthawks (1942), Morning Sun (1952), and other Hopper works, the band has released six singles, performed at venues and galleries across the Northeast, and grown a thousands-strong audience by word-of-mouth and electric live performances.

Night Hawk has shared the stage with national touring artists including Y La Bamba, Sadurn, Lady Lamb, Dino Gala, and Dead Gowns, and sold out headline shows in New York City, Boston, and Portland, ME. Their debut EP, Everything Good Ends (produced by Dan Capaldi) is out on February 16, 2024.
