KIND KING plays PINK FLOYD

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 (map)

$15 at door / 10pm doors / 10pm start / standing

This spooky season, KIND KING returns to the Lilypad to do the most terrifying thing they can think of: attempting to do justice to PINK FLOYD, one of the most influential—and singular—bands of all time. The genre-defying collective formed in 2011 has borne a debt of gratitude to Pink Floyd from day one, taking cues from their epic compositions, the lyrical guitar soloing of David Gilmour and a heavy reliance on organ & synth pads à la Rick Wright. Fifty years out from the release of the seminal Wish You Were Here LP, Kind King will take on the entirety of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" along with other classics from Floyd's most celebrated era. For this performance, the otherwise-instrumental group will feature their voices for the first (and possibly only) time, with drummer Mike Moschetto, guitarist Michael Thomas Doyle and keyboardist Amory Sivertson sharing vocal duties. The lineup will be rounded out by Caleb Green on guitar, Tommy Mulcahy on bass and Jake Hirsch on saxophone.

Kind King makes instrumental music that is at once strangely familiar yet also idiosyncratic, even alien - like a distant cousin you didn’t know you had, but you can immediately tell you’re related. Combining the liminal soundscapes of post-rock with the vocabulary & adventurism of jazz fusion and prog rock, the live result is a cinematic, psychedelic maelstrom that changes each time it’s conjured. Their latest EP, Live from Baker Music Barn, was recorded & filmed live with no overdubs and features a cover of Weather Report’s “Birdland,” along with exploratory renditions of their own material. A forthcoming release of all new tunes should be available in early 2026.
