The Montaño Big Band is a 19-piece jazz ensemble led by pianist and composer Alan Montaño at Berklee College of Music. The group is dedicated to performing inventive arrangements and engaging original compositions that reflect Alan's passion for jazz, Latin music, and the fusion of diverse cultural, musical influences.
Alan Montaño is a composer, arranger and pianist from the San Francisco Bay Area, with family roots in Mexico. He is currently studying Jazz Composition and Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Alan started the Montaño Big Band in his first year at Berklee, an ensemble dedicated to delivering exciting jazz performances. He is passionate about jazz and Latin music, and continually immerses himself in these genres while actively exploring fresh approaches to composition and arranging. Most recently Alan was awarded this years’ ASCAP Young Jazz Composer’s Scholarship for his afro-cuban jazz piece “Square One” performed by his big band.
