durianhead + Jim Connolly

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 (map)

$15 / 10:15 doors / 10:30 start / seated

durianhead and Jim Connolly present two live sets at The Lilypad that run the gamut of experimental electronic music. From Jim's shimmering, expansive ambient improvisations, to durianhead's monolithic walls of droning ambience, glitch, noise, irradiated free jazz plunderphonics, and algorave IDM, these performances are as much love letters to a long lineage of boundary-pushing electronic music as they are genre-bending and propulsive pieces that look to the future.

Originally from the Hudson Valley region of New York, Jim Connolly is currently a Boston based Trombonist and composer. Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music, where he studied with Ayn Inserto and Greg Hopkins, and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Frank Carlberg, Ken Schaphorst Anna Webber and Kalia Vandever.

Before earning his degrees, Jim served 5 years in the Marine Corps Band, where he served as a bass trombone instrumentalist and Assistant Enlisted Conductor with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band.

With his music, Jim aims to sculpt unique soundscapes that entice both listeners and improvisers to carve their own narrative in the music.

durianhead is a Singaporean-born, Boston-based musician who works with noise, glitch, ambient, drone and experimental electronic textures. At times spiky and impenetrable, at times hard-hitting and visceral, at times elusive and amorphous; their music wrangles every last bit of sonic detritus into monolithic, enveloping walls of sound, color and light.
