Bill Baird
Bill Baird has spent decades operating just outside the boundaries of whatever the music industry thought it was doing — drawing inspiration from fellow true believers and beautiful misfits like Arthur Russell, Daniel Johnston, Roky Erickson, and Doug Sahm, while quietly assembling one of the most idiosyncratic bodies of work in American independent music.
His first major act, Sound Team, signed to Capitol Records and Parlophone and became the subject of Echotone, a documentary film that captured both the promise and the chaos of that era. His next project, {{{Sunset}}}, logged endless miles on the road alongside beloved California outfit The Range of Light Wilderness. Along the way, Baird crashed on Flea's couch, co-wrote songs with Pete Brown — the man who handed Cream "Sunshine of Your Love" — and somehow found time to teach songwriting at the legendary Esalen Institute on the Big Sur coast.
He dropped out of college young, lived out his Kerouac fantasy on the open road, and eventually circled back to academia, earning an MFA from Mills College — where the celebrated jazz composer Roscoe Mitchell once told him "You are a testament to the failure of the American educational system."
The records kept coming. Baird has released music on Dangerbird, Aural Canyon, Curly, Moon Glyph, in addition to a steady stream of self-released albums .He's been playlisted on BBC 6 Music, performed across their airwaves, earned Rough Trade's Record of the Month, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios twice. He's produced albums for Generationals and Garrett T. Capps, and traveled through India for six weeks shooting The Origin of Sound, a film made for Air India. The city of Austin once gave him his own day at City Hall — Bill Baird Day.
Critics who've caught up with him haven't been subtle. "In the sphere of psychedelic music, Bill Baird is without a doubt one of the top 2 or 3 songwriters in the world," wrote le Village Pop. Tiny Mix Tapes called him "one of the last of the living rock n roll geniuses." The Bay Bridged kept it simple: "Bill Baird is a genius."
He is currently back home in San Antonio, where he is working on a book about the 1968 World's Fair for Texas A&M University Press. His newest album Life Creates Itself is set to be released on September 25th 2026 by Royal Oakie Records.
Lane Hartley
No Home is the new album by Lane Hartley, releasing October 23rd 2026 on Royal Oakie Records. Produced in collaboration with David Hartley of The War On Drugs & Adam McDaniel (Animal Collective, Angel Olsen, Geologist), the album was recorded at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville and features contributions from North Carolina’s tight knit music community–including Mary Lattimore, Seth Kaufman of Floating Action & Dream Sitch, David Hartley, Jack Victor Johnson, and more.
After recording his debut album Naming Horses, Lane left Los Angeles and returned home to the Carolinas, eventually landing in Asheville. It wasn’t too long until the songs started flowing and Lane found himself reaching out to Adam McDaniel at Drop of Sun Studios–a vaunted space that’s been at the heart of indie-rock the past few years, bringing to life recent albums from MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, Fust, and more. McDaniel introduced Lane to David Hartley, and what originally started with discussions to record one song quickly turned into a plan to track a whole album live with a six piece band. Once in the studio, co-producer McDaniel encouraged the group to lean on intuition–“All of the players on this record really brought it to life in such a cosmic way. They instilled so much childlike wonder and fun into the making of the album. It inspired me to keep going” says Lane.
Jesse Gallagher
began living above the Lilypad in 2006, just a few blocks from where his grandfather grew up on Inman st. At the time Jesse was in the middle of what would be about a decade of regular touring, performing & recording with his psychedelic rock band Apollo Sunshine. The band was featured in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Spin & shared the stage with legendary acts Wu-Tang Clan, Toots & The Maytals, The Flaming Lips & Dr. Dog. Jesse has been involved with the Lilypad for 20 years and the full time talent booking agent since 2013.
Breaking Bad used Jesse’s song “We are Born When We Die” (2008) to dramatic effect. “Today is the Day” (2005) was in international Nike commercials while his “Singing to the Earth to Thank Her For You” was used in a large GAP campaign. Gallagher has collaborated, recorded & performed extensively w/ Sam Cohen, Willy Mason, Lilys, Nick Nicely, Doug Tuttle & Edan. Gallagher is a certified Yoga & Meditation teacher and hosts classes at the Lilypad & online. Since 2018, he has released 40 pieces of instrumental music which have been used in millions of YouTube videos ranging from NBC NY to Tesla and most recently a string of viral videos by Emma Chamberlain. Gallagher has a very active YouTube channel, making lots of psychedelic music videos and building a community of mindful listeners.
