Luis Reyes Quintet
Led by saxophonist and composer Luis Reyes, the quintet is an ensemble of musicians from Boston's vibrant jazz community. Performing original compositions that draw from a wide range of influences, from hard bop to modern jazz, the group embraces the depth of the jazz tradition while exploring the possibilities of contemporary improvisation. With a sound that is both rooted in tradition and forward-looking, the quintet reflects the diverse and evolving spirit of modern jazz.
The Quantum Collective
A brainchild of local trumpeter Matt Kelly, The Quantum Collective bursts with energy and vitality, trying to capture the urgency of this moment through the lens of Black American Music. The quintet eschews the electronic experimentation of sister band Quantum Moon for a more grounded and tactile approach. Taking cues from visionary musicians and activists like Max Roach, Gil Scott-Heron, and Sons of Kemet, The Quantum Collective leans into the fact that making music is an inherently political act and every note can be a barb in the side of an authoritarian institution while also capturing the joy and resilience in our hearts. So come dig deep and let loose in joyful rage and beautiful sadness.
