Thanya Iyer (Montreal, CA) will be coming to the Lilypad to bring songs from her new album, TIDE/TIED and new unreleased works in a genre-bending, chamber ensemble performance. She will be joined by the Boston-based, Dot Dev, the indie-rap project of Devin Bailey.
Thanya Iyer
is an enigmatic songwriter whose sparkling, experimental pop music embraces mindfulness, aesthetic beauty, and the interconnectedness of all things. For this special show at the Lilypad, she is bringing songs from her new album TIDE/TIED and new unreleased works in a genre bending performance that is a sonic embrace of transformation and collective care. With washes of jazz-inflected pop and ensemble ambience courtesy of Pompey’s adventurous multi-instrumentalism on guitar and clarinet, and the celestial harp, flute, and voice of Emilie Kahn, Thanya Iyer builds a layered musical world that Pitchfork described as “a lucid daydream that’s constantly melting at its edges and hailed by the New York Times as “a haven of wellness.”
Dot Dev, the Boston-based indie rap project of Devin Bailey, exists in the liminal space between abstract poetry and playful, jazz-kissed beats. Sounding at times like a spring morning filtered through retro cartoons, their music is mellow, yet eccentric. Drawing from the lyrical depth of folk songwriters like The Mountain Goats and the avant-garde flows of MIKE and MF DOOM, Dot Dev’s songs feel both studious and spontaneous, balancing heady themes with an infectious sense of fun.
Born into music (their father was a musician, and they joined their first band at fifteen), Dot Dev thrives at the intersection of rap and internet surrealism. Whether dissecting pop culture or reveling in absurdity, his authenticity reverberates, soothingly bridging the gap between existential introspection and lighthearted escapism.
