Austin Engelhardt & Friends

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 (map)

$10 cover / 10pm doors / 10:30 start / seated

An evening of free improvisation, led by guitarist Austin Engelhardt and oboist Corinne Foley, along with an ensemble of collaborators and guest improvisors.

Austin Engelhardt is a composer and improviser whose work explores communication through sound, focusing on listening, response, and shared presence in performance. Coming to music later in life, he developed an unconventional approach that challenges traditional ideas of notation and performance, often treating the score as a living collaborator. Drawing from a background in visual art, his music emphasizes texture, shape, spatial awareness, experimentation, and imperfection. His works include Book I & II, a collection of graphic scores; Megalith, a vocal quintet centered on ensemble communication; and Talk to Each Other, for percussion and feedback. Engelhardt has collaborated with ensembles and artists including the Shimmer Quartet and Loadbang Ensemble and is a founding member of Turnsōl Tapes
