Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still is Sophie's second album, and it focuses on how to approach playing guitar like a fiddler, singer, and percussive dancer. She uses alternate guitar tunings and "fiddle picking" techniques to emulate the feel and sound of the fiddle. She accompanies her voice using harmonic gravity, rhythmic velocity, and her experience as a ballad singer and jazz vocalist. HBSHMS is artfully recorded, mixed, and produced by Grammy Award winning artist Cathy Fink. Live tracked and performed solo, it is a souvenir of Sophie's dynamic musicianship.
Sophie Wellington is an old time fiddler, flatpick guitarist, percussive dancer and jazz vocalist based in Boston, MA. Sophie grew up in Staunton, VA and was raised in its vibrant music community by musician and dance caller Bill Wellington and classical pianist Lynne Mackey. Sophie graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2022 with a degree in jazz voice and American roots music, and has since taught fiddle, flatfooting, guitar, and music theory at numerous festivals and camps. Sophie also toured extensively with musician and modern day bard Willi Carlisle.
