David Dogan
"a multiplicity is defined not by its elements, nor by a center of unification or comprehension. it is defined by the number of dimensions it has; it is not divisible, it cannot lose or gain a dimension without changing its nature. ... ...the self is only a threshold, a door, a becoming between two multiplicities."
- p.249, "1730: Becoming-Intense, Becoming-Animal, Becoming-Imperceptible. . ." [A Thousand Plateaus x Gilles Deleuze & Felix Guattari.]
Elena Doria Winell
is a composer, performer, and educator. She draws on a wide range of interdisciplinary influences to create deeply intense, personal, and multi-dimensional works via processes of intense collaboration with the intended performers. Her compositions have been described as “fundamentally dramatic" [Out to Lunch Records] and having an “expansive spirit” [Boston Musical Intelligencer], and have been performed by such luminaries as loadbang, JACK Quartet, & International Contemporary Ensemble.
Some past highlights include her second opera, The Little Red Hen, starring renowned Canadian soprano Rose Hegele. Some past performance highlights include singing Pierrot lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg with Ensemble Der Gestank, as well as performing with musical figures as wide-ranging as Karita Mattila to John Wetton to Butch Trucks. Elena earned her Masters of Music in Composition from the Peabody Institute at The Johns Hopkins University in 2025 studying with Felipe Lara. She earned her BM in Composition from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee studying with Felipe Lara, Tina Tallon, Curtis K. Hughes, and Marc McAneny.
Respites from Silence
is a shape shifting blend of genres and performers, assembled around Out to Lunch founder Daniel Nerger, and characterized by the juxtaposition of electronics with live performance, composition with improvisation, and experimentation with a clear sense of groundedness (Daniel hopes and truthfully, he tries). Respites from Silence released their debut full length album on OtL on January 1st, 2021 and titled it rather fittingly, The First Respite. It features a wide array of samples and loops, vocals from various performers including Rose Hegele, Eduardo Omondi, and David Dogan, and a variety of guest instrumentalists as well as keyboard work from Daniel himself (wow!) Respites from Silence begins its next iteration with newly composed music and its first ever attempt at a live performance. Wish them luck.
