Barabas - Orbit | Album Launch Concert

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 (map)

$22 admission / 7:15 doors / 7:30 show / seated & standing

Orbit is the new solo album by Hungarian trumpeter, pianist, and composer Lőrinc Barabás, who now performs his solo project under the name Barabas. The album is a cinematic and meditative musical journey where neoclassical piano, ambient soundscapes, and electronic textures come together.

The ten compositions explore the ideas of movement and cycles. As the world around us moves ever faster, the music invites listeners to slow down, turn inward, and discover moments of stillness.

Trumpet, piano, and synthesizers engage in a musical dialogue, creating a sound world that is both intimate and expansive, moving between ambient, neoclassical, and electronic music.

Throughout his nearly two-decade career, Lőrinc Barabás has released thirteen albums, performed regularly across Europe and the United States, and collaborated with artists including Erik Truffaz, Takuya Kuroda, Niklas Paschburg, and Valerie June.

His international appearances include the EFG London Jazz Festival at the Barbican, the Jazzycolors Festival in Paris, The Town Hall in New York City, Expo 2020 Dubai, and Expo 2025 Osaka.

The album launch concert at The Lilypad in Cambridge, just outside Boston, brings the world of Orbit to life on stage, where acoustic instruments and electronics merge into one continuous, immersive musical experience.

Barabas

Barabas is the solo project of Hungarian trumpeter and composer Lőrinc Barabás. Blending trumpet, piano, synthesizers, and electronics, his music moves between neoclassical, ambient, contemporary jazz, and electronic music, creating a cinematic sound world built around strong melodies, improvisation, and atmospheric textures.

Over a career spanning nearly two decades, Barabás has released twelve albums across solo and ensemble projects. His solo catalogue includes Sastra (2013), Elevator Dance Music (2015), Algorhythms (2019), and the intimate, piano-centered 22 (2023). His latest album, Orbit (2026), develops this musical language further, bringing minimalist piano, atmospheric synthesizers, electronic rhythms, and trumpet into a more spacious and meditative setting.

As a live artist, Barabas transforms this material into an immersive solo performance, moving fluidly between piano, trumpet, synthesizers, looping, and electronics. Rather than separating acoustic and electronic music, he uses them as parts of the same musical language, allowing composed pieces and improvisation to evolve naturally on stage.

Barabás has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, opened for Jean-Michel Jarre, and collaborated with artists including Erik Truffaz, Takuya Kuroda, Niklas Paschburg, and Valerie June. International appearances include the EFG London Jazz Festival at the Barbican, Brooklyn Public Library, The Town Hall in New York, Expo 2020 Dubai, and Expo 2025 Osaka.

Performing his solo project under the name Barabas, he brings together nearly two decades of musical exploration in a distinctive contemporary identity — trumpet, piano, and electronics meeting somewhere between the concert hall, jazz club, and electronic stage.
