Needle & Thread is a hybrid multimedia experience created by Shoshana Klein and Nicholas Brewer. It is a narrative musical journey told through a combination of experimental contemporary classical music, electronics, improvisation, and some canonic repertoire.

Shoshana Klein

Shoshana is an oboist and arts administrator who is passionate about artistic communities and creative spaces that are open and welcoming. She is interested in developing curriculums and initiatives to push the music world forward as well as the arts community as a whole. Shoshana welcomes multidisciplinary collaboration and different social applications of the arts. She has attended the Fresh Inc, Divergent Studio, and Bang on a Can Festivals, and performed dozens of world premieres and original compositions, including performances at venues in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Montreal, North Adams, Massachusetts; and New York City. Shoshana has music performance degrees from Carnegie Mellon and McGill Universities. Shoshana works with electronics and video, and likes to think about how different artistic mediums can work together to enhance an experience.

Nicholas Brewer

Nicholas Brewer is not only a pianist, but a musical artist and educator. They are a specialist in technique and injury recovery, using a method informed by sports medicine, physical therapy, calisthenics, psychology, and mindfulness. Brewer’s playing is marked by an attention to emotion and atmosphere. They are equally at ease in the worlds of contemporary music, canonical repertoire, and the underappreciated. An active collaborator, Brewer sees working with others as the most rewarding form of music making.

Brewer's alma mater is Hamilton College, where they studied Computer Science, Music, and Art. Brewer received their master's degree in piano performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College and their Graduate Diploma in performance from McGill University.
