This time we have a very special interactive performance from harmonium master Kedar Naphade, accompanied by Pranav Ghatraju on tabla. come to hear his wonderful playing as well as for an interactive audience-inclusive session where you can learn about this wonderful instrument, how it’s played, ask questions, and learn! this amazing event should not be missed by anyone interested in harmonium and indian instruments.
Kedar Naphade is a globally renowned harmonium soloist and accompanist in Indian Classical, Semi-Classical and Devotional music, including Bhajan, Kirtan and Chanting. He founded The Harmonium Institute, a not-for-profit that teaches harmonium to students of all levels, ages and locations. He was trained for over three decades by Harmonium Maestro Late Padmashri Pt. Tulsidas Borkar and Vidushi Smt. Padmavati Shaligram-Gokhale. In a 30+ year career, Kedar has performed across India, the US, Canada and Europe, at venues including Carnegie Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian and The World Harmonium Summit (Bangalore). His music has been broadcast on NPR and on other radio stations in the US and UK.
Pranav Ghatraju began learning tabla at age 5 under Dr. Nishikant Sonwalker. He now studies with Ustad Shabbir Nisar, son of Tabla Nawaaz Ustad Shaik Dawood Khan of Hyderabad. Pranav has accompanied artists and performed solo across the US and India since a young age. He received a New England Conservatory scholarship to its World Rhythm boot camp (2007), was the youngest recipient of INDIA New England’s 20 Under 20 award (2010), and won the under-15 mega finals at Swarganga’s Crescendo 2011. In 2023, INDIA New England named him a “Rising Star.”
